October 2007 - New web-site

C.M.S. srl launches its new web site entirely revised under the aesthetic profile and completely updated as regards the range of products. By means of a clear description of the products and applications, integrated by a lot of pictures, the visitor will be able to look at the whole range of CMS production, by individuating the characteristics of the products of its own interest. With the support of the section “Contacts” the site visitors may address specific questions directly to the people in charge. Using the section “News” CMS illustrates all the new and/or technical and commercial information which could be useful to its present and future customers.

April 2007 - New family of Horizontal expanders (EP)

The production of small/medium range of coils with length more than 3m requires a proper expansion system of the tubes which considers, besides the expansion speed, also the possibility to use hairpins and to avoid, if possible, the necessity of an additional cleaning inside the tube when coils are used with HCF or natural refrigerants. Besides the present range of automatic expansion machines MOA, CMS has launched a new range of semi-automatic horizontal expansion machine EP which represents an effective and economic way to make the tubes expansion. More in particular, we talk about semi-automatic horizontal expanding machine for expansion of coils with length between 3 and 12,5m. The expansion may be executed by pulling (EPT) or by pushing (EPS), or eventually, in the combined version, it may be both for pulling and pushing (EPT-S). It is preferred the version by pulling if the coils to be expanded constitute of hairpins with the two legs in different rows, while the version by pushing is preferred for coils using straight tubes only. The expanding machine EP allows to expand up to 8 tubes contemporaneously with a max. tube length of 12.5m. The horizontal – vertical translation of the rods is powered with a “step by step” control unit managed by a 3 axes CN. Adjustable valves inject a limited and controlled quantity of lubricant inside the tubes, allowing a fast tube expansion limiting the presence of lubricant. An easy and quick replacement of spacers allows to change the tube pitch to be expanded; for changing the diameter it is necessary the replacement of the complete set of tooling. Upon request, it is possible to add a complete set of “flaring tools” which align the tubes and prepare the bell for the insertion of the return bends.

June 2006 - Complete production line for coils with Oval Tubes

After some years of research, development and tests, CMS has released a complete line of machines for the production of finned heat exchangers with oval tubes (axis ratio 2:1). It includes the fin line (FL), the Straightening-cutting machine (T) with one or more tubes and the Horizontal expanding machine by pushing (EPS). By using these machines it is possible to produce coils with oval tubes in the same easy system used for producing coils with round tubes. The utilization of coil geometries with oval tubes allows the production of finned heat exchangers with the highest overall thermal efficiency. Using the same tubes geometry for the finned heat exchanger, the oval tube shape reduces drastically the air pressure drops at the same front air speed (40-45% less), eliminates the instability of the boundary layer on the external surface of the tube, minimizes the “dead zone” due to vortex on downstream of the tube. The most interesting application of this geometry is for “air to liquid” heat exchangers, as the dry-coolers, but it may be used also for low pressure refrigerants (PSmax 15 bar). The combination of benefits previously described, which comes from the use of coils with oval tubes, determines for the same dry-cooler size (same geometry, front area and number of rows) an increase of performance, as follows: - increased thermal performance up and more than 20%, based on number of rows and with the same helicoidal fan; - same thermal performance by using a fan with a reduced number of runs per minute (RPM) and therefore with a reduced electric power input; besides, a fan with a reduced number of RPM is less noisy; - to belong to a better energy efficiency class (lower energy consumption).

September 2005 - New Tube end-closer (SM)

The introduction of new high pressure refrigerants (R410A, CO2, etc.) has brought to a considerably increase of the thickness of copper tube manifolds used for air cooled condenser coils. One of the weakest points of the manifold is the flat disc which closes the extremities of the manifold: CMS, with its new tube end-closer machine (SM) has introduced an original and effective system to quickly solve the problem, without for this requiring increases of the pipe thickness. The particularity of this machine consists on the fact that the manifold to be closed is kept hold and therefore the length is not a limit and it may also have a non-rectilinear shape. The manifold is tapered, for plastic deformation, by a rotating mandrel with 2 contrasting tools. The displacement of the mandrel at 2 controlled axes allows to shape, for plastic deformation, the extremity of the tube from flat-end, to link different radius, to hemisphere. It is possible to obtain in this way a curved shape which, with the same thickness, increases considerably the burst pressure of the manifold in respect of the flat-end shape; it is either not necessary to weld or braze the end disc. The maximum obtainable copper pipe diameter is 4,25”/108 mm.

March 2005 - Vertical expander (MV) with rods selection and interchangeable rods storages

The range of vertical expanding machine MV offers more opportunities with the introduction of the patented system of automatic rods selection. The automatic rods selection is performed by a control panel and allows to take out and fix the selected rods from a storage, hydraulically driven from stand-by to collecting position and vice versa. The vertical expanding machine MV in this version executes, with a simply programming from the control panel: - the automatic selection of rods, both for tubes and for rows, when the storage is in “loading/unloading position” - the self-positioning of back doors, driven by hydraulic pistons, to process coils with different height and number of rows The expansion of tubes with different wall thickness requires to change the bullet coupling; the same happens when the tube diameter changes in a coil with the same tube geometry and if it is mechanically possible (to be checked with our technical office). In both cases it is possible to make it fast and easy by using an external rods storage. This storage can be equipped with 1 to 5 rods containers with different bullet size and/or different bullet diameter. The rods storages replacement is provided by a slewing jib crane (supplied on demand) which removes the rods storage actually in stand-by and replaces it with that one available in the storage. The rods storage is than translated automatically from the stand-by position to operating position, where the rods, selected from the control panel, are collected.
